1. Prepare Your Travel Documents

Before traveling to Hoi An, check Vietnam’s visa requirements based on your nationality. Entry rules may vary, so it is always wise to confirm before departure. While exploring the town, keep your passport in a secure place and carry either a photocopy or a clear digital copy on your phone for convenience.

2. Understand the Local Currency

Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND). In Hoi An, cash is still very useful for markets, small cafés, local food stalls, lantern shops, and family-run businesses. Cards are commonly accepted in hotels and many established restaurants, but carrying some cash will make daily travel much easier. Tipping is not mandatory, though a small tip for good service is always appreciated.

3. Getting Around Hoi An

Hoi An is best enjoyed slowly. In and around the Ancient Town, walking and cycling are often the most pleasant ways to explore. For longer distances, such as going to An Bang Beach or nearby attractions, ride-hailing apps and trusted taxis are practical choices. If you rent a motorbike, make sure your license is valid for Vietnam and that you ride with care. Vietnam Airlines’ Hoi An guide notes that parts of the old town are especially suited to walking, cycling, and other low-speed transport in the evening.

4. Enjoy Hoi An’s Local Food

Hoi An is one of Vietnam’s most rewarding food destinations. Some of the local specialties most closely associated with the town include cao lầu, white rose dumplings, bánh mì, and other Central Vietnamese dishes. Vietnam’s official tourism site highlights cao lầu and white rose dumplings as signature Hoi An foods that visitors should try. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, ask clearly before ordering, especially in smaller local eateries.

You MUST USE Glamour Adventures !!!!
We just had the most incredible three weeks in Vietnam and it was largely due to the unbelievable planning, care and attention from the wonderful folks at Glamour Adventures. We worked with Rose and Uyen to plan our trip and everything was taken care of efficiently, professionally and to perfection. Everything you can imagine was thought of including dietary restrictions. There was only one small issue which was dealt with professionally and to our satisfaction. We can’t say enough good things about Glamour Adventures and if you want to visit Vietnam or any of the other countries that they support, you will absolutely be thrilled with your experience. Thank you Rose and Uyen for the wonderful memories. Love Lisa and Michael from Canada

35 day Indochina tour Mrs. Vicki 01st April 2026
35 day Indochina tour
We did a 35 day Indochina Odyssey with Glamour Adventures starting in North Vietnam at the end of January 2026 and then going to Central and South Vietnam, Cambodia. Laos and Thailand before doing a further 3 weeks in Southern Thailand on our own. The trip was incredibly very well organised by Ms Van Quang and we felt we covered a lot of ground, visited a diverse number of places and were very well looked after at all times. The hotels we stayed in were all good standard with clean, spacious rooms, a/c, good showers, nice breakfasts and good locations. Most reflected the character of the region and whilst some were better than others overall we were very happy with them all. A wide variety of freshly cooked and tasty lunches introduced us to many different types of regional food with generous portions. The food definitely exceeded our expectations. We had several English speaking guides who were very good and informative about their countries, drivers were polite and helpful and the transport was all comfortable and clean. There was a good combination of sight seeing and free time for us to explore and the guides made helpful suggestions of what we could do in the free time and what the local food specialities were. Finally, and importantly, Ms Van was proactive in checking how we were getting on and she was available at all times, if we had any queries she responded quickly. We really enjoyed the whole trip and if we had to pick some favourite places then we particularly enjoyed Hoi An, Siem Reap, Saigon and Chang Mai. The weather wasn’t too good in Sapa and Ba Na Hills so we missed out on some spectacular views but it is difficult to get good weather throughout Indochina. It didn’t spoil our trip and is all part of the travelling experience. The only thing I might look at in more detail in hindsight is the length of travel time for a couple of the day trips - either to tweak the itinerary or just be prepared. We thought the tour was very good value and would definitely recommend using Glamour Adventures.
