Vietnam Tourist Visa Policy for Australian Citizens

Vietnam Tourist Visa Policy for Australian Citizens
16/04/2025
Australian passport holders are required to obtain a visa to travel to Vietnam. There are three types of visas available, and here’s an overview of the e-Visa, the most common option.

e-Visa (Online Visa)

The e-Visa is an electronic travel authorization granted by the Vietnamese Government for a single entry, valid for up to 30 consecutive days. It is issued in PDF format and functions as a valid visa without the need for a stamp or label in your passport. The e-Visa is a mandatory entry requirement for travel to and within Vietnam.

  • Fee: $25 per visa
  • Application: You can apply online via the official immigration website here.

Key Points About the Vietnam e-Visa

  • Single Entry: The e-Visa allows only one entry into Vietnam.
  • Validity: The visa is valid for 30 days from the date of entry as specified during the application.
  • Duration of Stay: You may stay for a maximum of 30 consecutive days from your initial entry date.
  • Extensions: If you need to extend your stay beyond 30 days, a new visa may be required. This can be arranged if you are invited or guaranteed by a recognized authority, organization, or individual in Vietnam, in line with the Vietnamese Immigration Law.
  • Passport Requirements: Your passport must be valid for at least one month after your planned arrival in Vietnam and must have at least two blank pages for immigration processing.
  • Minors: Minors with their own passport must complete their own e-Visa application. For minors aged 14 or under included on their parent's passport, they should be included in the parent's e-Visa application.
  • Carry a Copy: You are required to have a printed copy of your e-Visa with you at all times during your stay in Vietnam.

Make sure to review all the requirements before applying for your e-Visa to ensure a smooth entry into Vietnam.

3 Steps to Apply for Your Vietnam Visa on Arrival

Step 1: Apply online through a visa agent to receive an approval letter. Standard processing typically takes 3-5 working days, while urgent processing can be completed in 8 working hours.

Step 2: Once you receive the approval letter by email, print a hard copy. Additionally, you’ll need to prepare:

  • 2 passport-sized photos
  • Your passport
  • Stamping fee: US $25 (for a single-entry visa) or US $50 (for a multiple-entry visa) in cash

Step 3: Present all the required documents upon arrival at a Vietnamese international airport to get your visa stamp. And that's it!

How Much Will You Pay for Your Vietnam Visa on Arrival?

  • Stamping Fee: Payable in cash at the airport in either Vietnamese Dongs or US Dollars (credit cards are not accepted).
